Volunteers needed for Farm to School project May 23rd-26th!
From Bjorn Bergman,
Vernon County Farm to School Initiative

Hi supporters of the Vernon County Farm to School Initiative. I am contacting you because I need your help with an upcoming Farm to School project May 23rd-26th!
Background: During the summer of 2010, Viroqua Area Schools was one of nine schools chosen in the state of WI to be research site for a UW-Madison research project on the effectiveness of Farm to School programs looking at whether they have a positive impact on students food choices and the incidence of Childhood obesity. When completed, this study will be the most comprehensive and concrete research on the effectiveness of Farm to School programs.
One part of the research involves a Plate Waste Analysis, which involves taking photographs of the students lunch trays before they eat and after they finish eating, to see what foods they are choosing to eat and what they are throwing away. May 23rd-26th Viroqua Area Schools will be completing its Plate Waste Analysis. For this portion of the study, I am looking for three generous folks to volunteer on each of the following days and times to help take photos of the students trays:
- Monday, May 23rd from 11:10am-1pm
- Tuesday, May 24th from 11:10am-1pm
- Wednesday, May 25th from 11:10am-1pm
- Thursday, May 26th from 11:10am-1pm
Volunteer Duties:
- Be at the Viroqua High School Office by 11:10am on the day you can volunteer.Help set up lunch room/lunch lines for plate waste analysis.
- Take photographs of students school lunch trays before and after they eat.
- Distribute lunch trays to students
- Clean up following the plate waste analysis
We will provide digital cameras to the volunteers along with training on how to use them.
If you are able to volunteer on any of these days, please email me at berbjo@viroqua.k12.wi.us by Friday, May 20th or give me a call in my office at 608-637-1540 to let me know what day(s) and time(s) you can help out.
If you have any questions, feel free to email or call me.
Thank you so much for your support of the Initiative. I appreciate it!
Best,
