Beauty with a Conscience: Natural Cosmetics

In the VFC Wellness department we have several new cosmetics, skin care products and some reformulated and improved sunscreens.

I am really excited about Primitive Makeup’s line of lip color. They are free of additives, preservatives, artificial color and parabens. In 2009 the company earned a Beauty with a Conscience Award from Natural Solutions magazine, and also won Best Lip Gloss!

Primitive is the first cosmetic company in the world to carry Jane Goodall’s Good for All brand. Through your purchase of the Primitive Lipsticks Tahiti and Belize, which were personally selected by Dr. Goodall to carry the Good for All brand, a percentage of the sale of each lipstick goes directly to the Jane Goodall Institute, a global non-profit that empowers people to make a difference for all living things. Look for the display of their lip sticks, glosses and pencils.

New to the Co-op is Galen Labs All Natural Skin Care. Produced in Minneapolis, their products combine certified organic, wild-crafted, and fair trade ingredients. There are no chemicals, preservatives, detergents, synthetic colorings or artificial perfumes in the ingredient list. We are starting with their 12 Element Facial Cleanser and Serum and their Cucumber Skin Care line.
You may also choose from Rose, Neroli, or Immortelle hydrosols to refresh skin and spirit. A hydrosol is the water obtained from plants during the steam distillation process. This process separates the naturally occurring oil and water substances, leaving essential oil and distillate or hydrosol. Whole plant ingredients are easily recognized and utilized by the body. The plant hydrosols selected by Galen Labs have documented historical value and long standing use in herbal medicine around the globe.
Badger Balm sunscreen products, already top rated by the Environmental Working Group, have improved their products by changing to an uncoated, non-nano Zinc Oxide as their active ingredient.
