Fresh and Local Produce! August 17th - 23rd

Garlic from New Traditions and viroqua food coopCured Garlic from New Traditions – nice big cloves:  always a treat after the puny ones from far away.  Store on the counter if you’re going to use it soon or in a dark, cool place for longer storage.

Carrots from Driftless Organics Viroqua Food CoopCarrots from Driftless Organics – super crunchy & fresh, full of vitamins & minerals.  No need to peel fresh organic carrots – most of their nutrition lies in or just below the skin.  Store in plastic in the fridge.

cantaloupe from Harmony Valley and viroqua food coopCantaloupe from Harmony Valley, Keewaydin Organics & Scenic Valley Farms – picked ripe for optimal sweetness.  Will keep for a couple days on the counter, a couple more in the fridge.

Patty Pan from Ridgeland Harvest and viroqua food coopPatty Pan Squash from Ridgeland Harvest & Keewaydin Organics – fun flying saucer-shaped summer squash.  Pick small ones to steam or roast whole, or cut up larger ones & use as you would zucchini.  You can also cut larger ones in half, roast as you would winter squash, scoop out some of the innards & stuff with sautéed onions, garlic, peppers, cooked grains, & cheese & put them back into the oven for a few minutes.  Store patty pans on the counter for a couple days or the fridge for a few.
