What could be more comforting than a steaming cup of hot cocoa? A cup of cocoa that’s also infused with the soothing, anti-inflammatory qualities of turmeric, ginger and other spices might just comfort your aches and pains, too. Use your milk of choice for a cup of soothing, creamy cocoa.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons raw cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/8 teaspoon ginseng powder (optional)
  • 2 cups almond milk or other milk
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Preparation

  1. In a small pot, combine the cocoa, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, black pepper, cardamom and ginseng (if desired). Whisk to mix well.
  2. Whisk in the milk then the maple syrup.
  3. Place over medium heat and stir until the cocoa is hot, but not boiling, about 2 minutes. Serve immediately.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this creamy hot cocoa with a cinnamon stick for stirring or top with whipped coconut cream, if desired.
