30 Years of Resilient Local Food Networks
This year, the Viroqua Food Co+op celebrates 30 years of local and organic food in the Driftless region!
In 1995, a small group of Viroqua folks joined together to create a lasting resource for the community focusing on food that is good for people and the planet. Thirty years later, co-op membership has grown to exceed the population of Viroqua, and the beloved Viroqua Food Co+op sells more than 3.5 million dollars in local food annually.
The co-op's long-term relationships with local farmers and producers have a direct impact on the local economy. When shoppers choose local products, it has a ripple effect throughout the community creating a resilient food network that uplifts small family farms. You can read more about some of the co-op's inspiring local farm partners here.
It takes dedication to build a thriving cooperative; from owners and shoppers, to farmers and producers, board members, vendors and staff, each role is essential to our success.
On Sunday, March 23rd from 9 to 11 am, the co-op will host a special breakfast event to honor board members past and present for their support of and service to the Viroqua Food Co+op. The co-op’s elected board of directors volunteer their time and talents to ensure that the co-op remains healthy, true to our mission, and prepared for the future.
Let's celebrate our thriving, unique, and resilient co-op! Stop by the co-op art wall in March 2025 to view a special display of co-op photos from the last 30 years.
